Signaling in the Heart - Jose Marin-Garcia [Har...

Signal transduction pathways are at the core of most biological processes and are critical regulators of heart physiology and pathophysiology. The heart is both a transmitter and dynamic receptor of a variety of intracellular and extracellular stimuli, playing a critical role of an integrator of diverse signaling mechanisms. Alterations in signaling pathways are contributing factors in the development and progression of a broad spectrum of diseases, ranging from dysrhythmias and atherosclerosis to hypertension and the metabolic syndrome. Targeting specific components of these signaling pathways has been shown to be effective in preclinical studies with significant therapeutic impact. This book brings together current knowledge in cardiovascular cell signal transduction mechanisms, advances in novel therapeutic approaches to improve cardiac function, and discussion of future directions. Presented from a post-genomic perspective, this exciting book introduces important new ideas in cardiovascular systems biology. It is an invaluable reference for cardiology researchers and practitioners.

This book combines clear explanatory text with a wealth of images of ECG recordings in order to provide an accessible, up-to-date source of information and guide to interpretation for all professionals seeking to increase their expertise in electrocardiography. ECG results are presented and discussed for a wide range of conditions, including all forms of arrhythmia, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, bundle branch blocks, ischemic cardiomyopathy, atrial and ventricular enlargement, pericardial and myocardial diseases, diseases of the pulmonary circulation, and post pacemaker implantation. Normal ECG findings are fully described, and helpful introductory information is included on the principles of electrophysiology. The practically oriented text accompanying the ECG recordings covers both electrophysiological and clinical aspects.More than 100 years after its first use by Willem Einthoven, electrocardiography continues to be the first diagnostic tool applied in most cardiac patients. This text atlas provides a sound basis for the correct ECG interpretation essential for appropriate patient management.

Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Off-pump coronary artery bypass or "beating heart" surgery is a form of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery performed without cardiopulmonary bypass (heart-lung machine) as a treatment for coronary heart disease. During most bypass surgeries, the heart is stopped and a heart-lung machine takes over the work of the heart and lungs. When a cardiac surgeon chooses to perform the CABG procedure off-pump, also known as OPCAB (Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass), the heart is still beating while the graft attachments are made to bypass a blockage. Off-pump coronary artery bypass was developed partly to avoid the complications of cardiopulmonary bypass during cardiac surgery. The medical community believed cardiopulmonary bypass caused a post-operative cognitive decline known as postperfusion syndrome (informally called "pumphead"), but research has shown no long-term difference between on and off pump coronary artery bypass. in patients of lower risk.
